Early Life and Education

On April 19, 1957, Mukesh Ambani was born in Aden, Yemen, where his father, Dhirubhai Ambani, was employed at the time. In 1958, the family Reliance's


 to India and settled in Mumbai. Mukesh was raised in Bhuleshwar, Mumbai, in a small two-bedroom flat in a chawl. The multi-industry empire known as Reliance began as a small textile company founded by his visionary father.
Mukesh attended Hill Grange High School in Mumbai and later graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology (UDCT), Mumbai. He briefly enrolled in an MBA program at Stanford University but dropped out in 1981 to help his father build Reliance 

Stepping into the Business World

Mukesh formally joined Reliance Industries in 1981. The company's primary focus at the time was textiles. Under his father's guidance, Mule sh  was instrumental in expanding Reliance's commercial ventures. From textiles to polyester fibers, petrochemicals, petroleum refining, and ultimately oil and gas exploration, he led the company's backward integration.
Mukesh Ambani was instrumental in setting up the world’s largest grassroots petroleum refinery at Jamnagar, Gujarat. The refinery, completed in 2000, is considered one of Reliance’s greatest engineering feats and helped transform the company into a global player in the energy
